A FEW THINGS, UNPEELED

Good
questions.

Doesn’t my Mac already do this?

Some of it, in different places. Finder Quick Actions convert and resize some images. Preview merges PDFs. Pages, Numbers and Keynote export Office files to PDF. QuickTime Player exports video. Pomelo puts compress, convert, resize, crop, merge, Office to PDF and video tools on one wheel that appears right where you drag, and every result is a fresh copy beside the original. It also makes WebP copies and web-ready sizes, and Smaller never hands you a bigger file.

What can I do with Pomelo?

Make images smaller, change their format (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more), resize, crop or rotate them. Combine PDFs, split them into pages or save pages as images. Turn text documents (.docx), simple spreadsheets (.xlsx) and slides (.pptx) into PDFs, and CSV files into Excel workbooks or PDFs. Make videos smaller, turn MOV or M4V into MP4, make a GIF from a clip of up to 30 seconds, pull out the sound as M4A or save a muted copy. Convert MP3, WAV, AIFF, CAF, AAC or M4A audio to M4A, WAV or AIFF, or make it smaller. The wheel only shows actions that fit your files.

How do I bring up the wheel?

Start dragging a file in Finder, then tap and release Shift while keeping the mouse held. Drop the file onto an action. For crop, resize and other actions with choices, Pomelo asks what you want before making the copy. You can change the shortcut from the menu bar.

Will it change my original files?

No. Pomelo saves a new copy beside the original, or in a folder you choose in Settings. Your original stays untouched. When it’s finished, use Show file to find the result in Finder.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The Mac app processes your files on your Mac. The website demo processes its sample files in your browser. Neither sends your files to a conversion service.

What can I try on this website?

Drag one of our samples onto a slice, or click an action. You can make a smaller image, convert, resize, crop, rotate or make a PDF, then save the result. Use Change sample to try another picture. The Mac app works with your own images, PDFs, Office files, video and audio. Office PDFs are previewed before saving; common complex layouts may be refused, and those need export from their original app.

What happens after the seven-day trial?

The trial starts when you first open the Mac app. Unlock Pomelo for US$4.99 once to keep making new conversions. There’s no subscription, no automatic charge at the end of the trial and no conversion credits to buy. Files you’ve already saved stay yours. The price shown in the app reflects your region.

Will Pomelo work on my Mac?

Pomelo requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later. During setup, allow the permission in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Device Control and Data Access (macOS 27) or Accessibility (earlier versions) so the desktop shortcut can respond while you’re dragging in Finder. You can pause the shortcut from Pomelo’s menu bar menu, or use Choose files without shortcut permission.
